Rental Scams

It’s true. There are unscrupulous people in the world. As a result of the internet, more and more people have become scammers. They see a rental property on a legitimate site, copy and paste the information onto a site known for scams and try to rent that property to some unsuspecting person. These con artists even use the real rental company name in their ad! Reporting the scam to the site does little good but reporting it to the local police department helps.

Here’s how you can help stop this fraud. When you see an ad that’s too good to be true. It IS too good to be true. Do your own web search on the phone number or the email listed in the ad. You might actually find that other people have been scammed by the same person. Gather all the info you can and call the non-emergency number for your local police department. File a report. Also file a report with the website running the fraudulent ad. Let the person know what you’ve done. These scammers don’t like obstacles and any obstacle you can create stops them from harming others.
